Ty Dolla $ign has paid tribute to his late friend Mac Miller in a powerful way.

Ty is the latest featured performer on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series. Though the artist’s full set hasn’t been released yet, NPR shared a special song he performed. In loving memory of his friend, Ty gave his own spin on Miller’s track, “Cinderella,” which Ty co-wrote and was a featured artist on.

This taping was almost a year to the day after Miller’s last appearance at Tiny Desk. NPR’s Bobby Carter reminded Ty of that fact. He and his band quickly came together to go over a few notes. Before the performance began, Ty shared a few words. “This for the bro Mac right here, man,” he said. “It’s been a year since that last show, so I’m honored to be here and do this with my boys.”

Ty and the band then delivered the song flawlessly with Ty improvising some vocal runs towards the end. Thundercat, who plays bass on the session, and Justus West, who plays guitar, were also both close friends and collaborators with Miller. The two each delivered their own amazing solos for their friend. Ty then ended the performance with a few more heartwarming words. “Shout out to Mac’s family. Shout out to his parents. Shout out to his sister. I love y’all. Shout out to his fans,” he said as the music faded out.
