quit-smokingWhile this subject is not about radio it is certainly one that radio should be talking about especially since a higher number of black women are a risk (there is no test according to the CDC for men). Apparently many people are surprised that actor Michael Douglas has revealed he got throat cancer from having oral sex (then his publicist retracted the statement) and apparently many people think it’s a joke or that he’s lying. While medical professionals state it is rare, unfortunately, it is   possible to get cancer from oral sex. HPV or the Human Papillomavirus is the most common STD and according to CDC studies   The virus if undetected can actually cause cancer. Here’s more info and a link from the CDC about the condition.

HPV (the virus) Approximately 79 million Americans are currently infected with HPV. About 14 million people become newly infected each year. HPV is so common that nearly all sexually-active men and women will get at least one type of HPV at some point in their lives. The virus usually lies dormant for years before it causes cancer and there are certain types of the virus that don’t cause cancer but talk to your doctor nonetheless if you have oral sex.
