Today Spotify announced that it will be integrating with Google Maps to allow travelers easier listening while using the Maps service.
Google Maps will now integrate Spotify playback controls, allowing easy listening control. While using Google Maps, a sidebar Spotify icon will allow users to browse songs, albums, and playlists. Spotify itself will have a banner that will return the user to active Google navigation.
Spotify has a history of successful pairing with travel apps, integrating with Waze in 2017. The integration will roll out over the next few days and will require an updated version of both Spotify and Google Maps to function.
In the last year, Spotify has experimented with additional innovations. These notably include an expansion of direct licensing deals with artists as well as the recent launch of Spotify for Artists, the latter allowing independent artists to distribute music through Spotify without needing label agreements or distribution support.
