As the budget meetings at iHeartmedia (formerly Clear Channel) approach next week, sources have informed us that the corporation is about to make staff changes. The targets will most likely be programming and on air talent. Sources inform us CCM (as well as many other radio corporations) don’t see the value or benefit in having one programmer or one jock per market and they want to change that so that one person represents more than one market. Unfortunately, this means potential layoffs. Contrary to reports and news stories the radio industry is an incredibly shrinking arena, only a fool would be waiting for what’s next instead of creating his or her own future opportunities. We have been saying this over and over again.
