Ariana Grande’s ‘Thank U, Next” Demolishes Records

theindustry.bizAriana Grande’s new music video for her hit single “Thank u, next,” among the first released with YouTube’s Premiere feature, broke a few records over the weekend. The video premiered November 30th, and at its peak had over 829,000 simultaneous viewers.

YouTube Premiere allows viewers to watch new videos at the same time. It also contains features such as a group chat and a countdown clock. Grande’s video, a breakup anthem that followed her public separation from SNL cast member Pete Davidson, was visually inspired by notable films of the 2000s, including Mean Girls, Legally Blonde, Bring It On, and 13 Going on 30.

The song is Grande’s first No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 single and is the latest in a line of successes.  Billboard announced that, as of November 30th, Grande became Spotify’s most streamed artist worldwide, and earlier in November she was crowned Billboard’s 2018 Woman of the Year. She will be presented with the award December 6th at the 13th annual Women in Music dinner and awards gala, held in New York.
