One Woman’s Tragedy: Keisha Brown parent of Jacobie and Jasquez Brown lost both of her sons this year on father’s day, June 15th in Dekalb County. The boys ages 14 and 11 drowned in a Stone Mountain pond. Jacobie, the older of the boys attempted to save the life of his younger brother Jasquez and tragically, both drowned during the rescue.
One Women’s Voice: Wand a Smith of V-103’s Frank and Wand a Morning Show received a phone call in regard to the Brown family’s devastating situation. She was also informed that in addition to the horrifying incident, the family had no financial resources to bury their sons Jacobi and Jasquez Brown. Being a devoted mother of two boys herself, Wand a was sympathetic to Ms. Brown’s grief. Wand a couldn’t help but think about how she would react if she ever had to face such a sad and unfortunate twist of fate.
After careful consideration, Wand a Smith decided that she must get involved. Wand a Smith took to the air waves on Thursday, June 19th to inform listeners about the plight of the Brown family. Within two commercial breaks a family who had a $0 balance in a Wachovia Memorial Fund now had $4000. Wand a Smith knew that was not enough to help Keisha Brown bury the most precious jewels in her life so she turned to the airwaves once again. For two days Wand a stayed in constant contact with the Keisha. By Friday, June 20, 2008 the goal was not only met but, superseded the initial goal by $17,000.
Jacobie and Jasquez Brown were laid to rest on Saturday, June 21, 2008. New Birth Missionary Baptist Church held the home going service while Rucker Funeral Home hand led the burial. Keisha Brown and her family are now finding some peace during their time of grief.
Wand a Smith entertains and uplifts her listeners as one half of the Frank and Wand a Morning show weekdays from 6-10AM on V-103 (103.3 FM). V-103 continues to prove that our voices still make a difference in the community. We’re the People’s Station – V-103.
