Usher is probably giving Tameka the evil side eye right now after realizing firing his own mother as his manager was probably not a great idea for the sake of his wife. While the proverbial “stage mother” is often frowned upon and looked at as a pure bitch, it is often because they live their lives vicariously through their children for the opportunities they have missed or didn’t pursue… to the point where even the kid usually ends up kicking them to the curb i.e. Brooke Shields, Robin Givens and Brand y. The stage mother often gets the opposite of what she wants most for the kid and she often destroys the kid’s career because nobody wants to deal with her. I’ve heard so many negative things about Sonya Norwood, Brand y’s mother, that it’s not hard to believe that she is responsible for yeilding Brand y’s career. People just didn’t want to deal with that woman. Ironically, I have never heard anything negative about Jonetta, Usher’s mom, I’ve never heard anyone say she was a stage mother. I’ve always heard she is DAMN good at artist management. And I know that she was approached to manage Britney Spears recently. So why did Ursh fire her? Many say it was to keep the peace between her and his wife Tameka. Apparently Jonetta didn’t care too much for Tameka and she let it be known. To make matters worse, he fired his mother just days before mother’s day. Benny Mediva oops I mean Medina stepped in as the new manager and Medina is largely credited for reviving Mariah Carey’s career.
Usher’s new album, nonetheless, has been slow out of the gate after making an impressive debut. He’s blaming Benny Medina, sources state and Medina came back with the excuse we hear on a daily in the industry “It’s the industry climate.” But that was BEFORE Lil’ Wayne knocked the sh… out of the charts with his recent Tha Carter III which sold more than a milli in the first week, compared to the paltry 433,000 Usher sold his first week out. Word is Ursh is LIVID and thinking about rehiring his mother, if she will take the job that is.
