HIP-HOP ROLE IN THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION

January 20, 2013

Washington, DC- (December 12, 2012)      Hip-Hop Summit Action Network along with PHILANTHROPIK are pleased to announce the HIP-HOP INAUGURAL BALL II in celebration of the Hip-Hop community’s role in the Presidential Election .    The black tie charity gala will be held on January 20, 2013 at 8:00pm, at The Harman Center for the Arts, 610 F Street, N.W., Washington, DC. The brainchild of Event Chairs Russell Simmons and Zac McDaniels, the Hip Hop Inaugural Ball looks to once again be one of the hottest tickets of the Inaugural weekend.

The last two elections have sparked a tremendous surge of political and social fervor within the hip-hop community and an influx of youth into mainstream politics.    Hip-Hop has a voice and as the genre continues to expand globally, that voice has become galvanized and powerful.

Inspired by the sweat equity and leadership emerging from the 2008 general election campaigns and exhibited by the Hip-Hop community, Russell Simmons introduced this historic event honoring and celebrating this new political presence and collective power. The impact was evident from the record turn out of voters under 30, many of whom cast their first votes ever in 2009 and turned out again in 2012. The Hip-Hop artists who attended the Ball and the invaluable sponsors who supported this celebration of civic engagement will be back again this January for the HHIB II. The 2009 guest list will likely be repeated with attendance by Russell Simmons, LL Cool J, T.I. and Tiny, Nick Cannon, Busta Rhymes, Young Jeezy, Ashanti, Trey Songz, Bow Wow and many more.

The people have spoken once again, and the youth vote exceeded the record-breaking numbers of the 2008 election. The Hip-Hop community once again engaged in voter registration efforts around the country and affected change. This year, PHILANTHROPIK, a non-profit organization dedicated to building diversity initiatives in social, civic, and economic endeavors and the HIP-HOP Summit Action Network support Russell in recognizing the continued momentum of the Hip-Hop community to stay engaged.

The Hip-Hop Inaugural Ball is a charity fundraiser with all ticket proceeds going to PHILANTHROPIK a non-profit committed to supporting programs and initiatives that empower the community and inspire young people to be philanthropic.

Tickets prices range from $500 to $2500 and will be available on a first come, first served basis by going to    www.eventfarm.com/HIB2013
