The Chicago jury in his Child Pornography trial have acquitted the singer on all counts. The verdict came six years after the R&B superstar was first charged with allegedly videotaping himself having sex with a young girl. Prosecutors had said she was as young as 13 at the time. Kelly had faced a maximum 15 years in prison. Before and during the trial Both Kelly and the now 23-year-old alleged victim have denied they were the ones appearing on the tape, which was played for the jury at the beginning and end of the trial. The prosecution's star witness was a woman who said she engaged in three-way sex with Kelly and the girl from the video. Defense attorneys argued the man on the tape didn't have a large mole on his back, as Kelly does.

Defense Rests in R Kelly Case

Just two days after their arguments began R. Kelly’s defense team has rested its case in the R&B star’s child
pornography trial. The singer - real name Robert Kelly - stands accused of videotaping himself having sex with an approximately 13-year-old girl. If convicted, Kelly faces up to 15 years in prison. Kelly lawyer Ed Genson announced the abrupt ending to the defense argument on Monday, stating he would not be calling any more witnesses to the stand. The defense team reportedly called less the half the number of witnesses to testify than did the prosecution.

The prosecution is expected to re-call key witnesses to the stand in the next few days. Judge Vincent Gaughan told jurors at the Chicago, Illinois court to expect closing arguments from both sides to begin on Thursday. In a motion filed Monday, the defense asked Cook County Judge Vincent Gaughan to keep both a VCR and the sex tape out of the jury's hands during deliberations, reports the Chicago Tribune. Kelly's attorneys argue that allowing jury-room screenings could be extremely prejudicial and lead the jurors to place too much emphasis on just one piece of evidence. They also argue that repeat views could potentially destroy the tape. Kelly has pleaded not guilty to all 14 counts of child pornography. [source]

Defense paints key R. Kelly witness as profit-seeking liar

Lisa Van Allen arrives June 2, 2008The R. Kelly prosecution finished its case Monday with dramatic testimony from the first person to assert direct knowledge of an inappropriate sexual relationship between the R&B superstar and the girl depicted in a sex tape at the heart of the child pornography case.

Lisa Van Allen, 27, detailed three-way sexual encounters with the singer and the alleged victim. But Van Allen didn't leave the stand before defense attorneys ruthlessly challenged her credibility by calling her a liar and asking her if she demanded $350,000 to change her story.

Filed Under: ... and at night, I take my head off and put it on the end table before I go to bed

The mystery witness, according to sources, will say that it is actually him in the movies. He pretended to be R Kelly to get women to have sex with him? But... UM, if it's him wont HE be charged with child molestation? Probably not as the girl in the movie (now 23) refuses to testify. This case is getting stranger by the minute.

In addition a video forensic expert testified: “It would take someone 44 years — working nonstop, 24/7, 365 days a year — to be able to fake that sex tape."

FRIED EGGS AND PORK CHOPS: Woman who did three way with Kelly and Alleged Underaged Girl Testifies Today

Let's just face it, things are just not looking good for music genius R. Kelly. An Atlanta woman, now labeled "The Bombshell Witness" in the R. Kelly trial is due to testify today. She MUST have cut a deal with the prosecution as she too would have been charged with child molestation for participating.

The defense is shitting pure bricks as they tried to force the woman's removal from the witness list but the judge saw it differently.

In addition...Lindsey Perryman, a former personal assistant to the 41-year-old superstar became the latest person to take the stand and state that it is indeed R Kelly in the sex tape.

"I didn't want to think it was them," the former employee said Tuesday, with Kelly sitting just yards away. Charged with 14 counts of child pornography Kelly has pleaded not guilty but faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted. Just in case you didn't know, child molesters and rapists are the most severely brutalized in the prison system as even the hardest criminals in American prisons have feelings for their own children.

Kelly's attorneys have denied that he is on the tape, even noting that the singer has a mole on his back (something that can pop up at anytime in your life) and the man on the tape does not. The alleged victim, now 23, also has denied she is on the tape — putting the onus on prosecutors to call witnesses who can testify it is her.

Prosecutors claim the tape was made between Jan. 1, 1998, and Nov. 1, 2000, and that the young female in the tape was born in September 1984 (which would have made her 13 or 16) Although Kelly won a Grammy in 1997 for the gospellike song "I Believe I Can Fly," his biggest hits are raunchy ballads like "Ignition" and his current single, "Hair Braider." He is scheduled to release a new album in July.

Strange Twists in R Kelly Case: Could it be thrown out?

Your Ad Here

It's now been six years since singer R. Kelly was slapped with child pornography charges over a homemade sex tape and the long-delayed trial is set to begin tomorrow.

Ironically the scandal over accusations that Kelly filmed himself having sex with a girl as young as 13 seems to have little impact on the Grammy-award winning artist's popularity which all boils down to we don't care if you are accused of fucking kids, just keep making music for us to dance and sing to. Kelly has managed to put out one album per year since his arrest and has collaborated with everyone from super clean Celine Dion to (super dirty-laugh) Kid Rock. "A hit record makes you forget about the bad stuff and he's had six years worth," said Dion Summers, director of urban programming for XM Satellite Radio.

"It's not that his fans don't recognize it or acknowledge it. It's almost as if they don't care."

Further complicating the case is the fact that the alleged victim, now 23, refuses to admit she is the girl in the raunchy tape, even though her friends, family and teachers identified her to a grand jury (um, she's probably humiliated.. greetings). To that end the question then becomes how is the prosecution going to prove the case without her testimony.

Prosecutors are hoping a third woman who will testify that she was involved in a three-way with the same girl and R Kelly will bring forth justice. They must have offered her a deal, because if she is an adult wouldn't she TOO be arrested for child molestation?

Kelly has manged to elude the law with this same problem before when he was arrested in Florida in 2003 on child pornography charges after police found a camera with photographs allegedly showing Kelly having sex with an underage girl. Those charges were dropped after a judge ruled the camera was illegally seized. It was rumored a member of his entourage grabbed a book bag that R Kelly took with him everywhere at a McDonalds while Kelly was at the counter ordering food. The bag supposedly contained the alleged material which the thief then forwarded to police after an alleged failed attempt to extort money from Kelly. At least three other women have filed civil lawsuits alleging that Kelly had sex with them when they were under the legal age of consent. No criminal charges have resulted from the cases.

The long-awaited trial has faced a number of delays, including when Kelly suffered from a burst appendix, the judge broke his shoulder falling off a ladder and a lead prosecutor gave birth.
Kelly's lawyers have also filed more than 30 motions, including efforts to have the case tossed out on constitutional grounds and to prevent an expert from testifying that sex abuse victims often refuse to admit to the abuse.
In addition when a fan snapped a photo of Kelly during a pre-trial hearing, the judge ordered her to spend five days in jail on contempt charges and had her cell phone destroyed. Good Lord...

Radio Station Wants to See R Kelly Trial Docs

Chicago Public Radio station WBEZ filed a petition Monday asking that court transcripts in the R. Kelly case be unsealed. Thus, following the lead of Chicago's two daily newspapers and the Associated Press. The 41-year-old singer is accused of videotaping himself having sex with an underage girl. Cook County Circuit Judge Vincent Gaughan already has rebuffed a similar request from the Chicago Tribune, the Chicago Sun-Times and the Associated Press by delaying a hearing until the day before the trial is to begin. On Monday, those organizations asked the Illinois Supreme Court to unseal court filings and open the proceedings. Gaughan indicated Tuesday morning he will send sealed transcripts from closed-door hearings in the case to the Illinois high court for review. In the meantime, the records will remain sealed, he said. Kelly's trial is scheduled to start May 9.
