iHeartmedia (formerly Clear Channel) Communitiesâ„¢, the community engagement brand of iHeartmedia (formerly Clear Channel) Media and Entertainment, and Philadelphia‘s Power 99 FM WUSL announced today that the first of its three Peace on the Street Jams will feature Driicky Graham, Nu World Music Group recording artist. Peace on the Street Jams will take place on Thursday, June 7, from 6-8:00 p.m. at Myers Recreation Center at 5800 Chester Ave. Philadelphia, PA 19143.
“My inspiration for rap was actually just an outlet for stress dealing with high school among other problems in life,” said Graham.
The annual Peace on the Street Jams provide information about how communities can stop violence and increase peace, featuring speakers and performances by national recording artists. Power 99 has teamed up with Philadelphia City Councilman, Kenyatta Johnson’s “Peace Not Guns Campaign,” Philadelphia Futures and Philadelphia Department of Parks and Recreation for the events.
Philadelphia Futures and Power 99 FM will also award the first of three $1,000 scholarships at Peace on the Street Jams. To enter, High School seniors submitted essays about why they need/deserve the scholarship to help them go to college or trade school. Philadelphia Futures: a union of White-Williams Scholars and Philadelphia Futures provides Philadelphia‘s high-potential, economically disadvantaged, college-bound students with deep, rigorous and life-changing programs and resources as they make their journey to and through college. Philadelphia Futures increases the percentage of the City’s public school students who are prepared for higher education, while simultaneously reducing the institutional barriers to their academic success. The organization operates on the belief that a college education is critical to economic self-sufficiency and a satisfying life.
