AUGUSTA, GA – You may notice a subtle change in MayFest this year, as the new owners of Augusta’s urban radio group make the event more family friendly. “We are taking MayFest back to its roots, to an event for the entire family,” said Sheila Eldridge, general manager and vice president of Perry Broadcasting of Augusta. Perry now owns WFXA-FM (103 Jamz), WAKB-FM and WTHB-FM (Praise 96.9). MayFest started in 1963 as the “Soul Picnic.” Though the event has traditionally taken place on the third Saturday in July, Perry moved the free concert to the fifth Saturday in May. The all-day event will include a children’s play land and the Great Bar-B-Que Cookoff. Morning acts include gospel from Jason Champion, Damon Little,Image and Jimmy Hicks. Old-school acts include Men at Large and Tiffany Evans. The stage will also be filled by popular hip-hop acts, including Young Joc, Gorilla Zo, Three Deep & Lil Will, Sean Garrett, VIC, Pleasure P, DJ Unk and Karina Paisan
