Urban radio is not what it used to be. There was a time when black people greatly depended on black radio to deliver the news, information and the knowledge to the community. Now many complain they are hearing the same 30 songs over and over again and there are no longer any community programs. These stations, nevertheless, still seem to be able to ride the wave of popularity and success. Allow me to say the stations listed are not all necessarily the highest rated (but some are) but these are the stations RadioFacts.com gets the most email, song request, prayer request, job request and everything else nationwide. Most of it’s good. (click “next” and enjoy)

Today, August 31st 2016 is the 116th anniversary of the birth of the pianist and arranger Todd Rhodes. Rhodes was an early influence in jazz and later on in R&B.
If you are interested in recordings by distinguished African-American musicians, please check out my youtube channel “Remember our Music” a site which daily honors a great African-American musician like Lester Young, Count Basie, Louis Armstrong, Charlie Parker and Oscar Peterson, plus divas of blues and jazz, including: Dinah Washington, Alice Coltrane and Lorez Alexandria, all born in the month of August!
