As we ALL very well know this is not a subject black industry people like to discuss (in groups) but the black industry is not alone, it is an issue in the ENTIRE industry. I asked a few white radio friends how their formats dealt with the whole gay issue and they admitted there is homophobia on all sides of the industry including theirs. Very few know of openly gay industry people outside of a few celebrities. Lest we forget there have been plenty of gay and bisexual industry people on ALL sides of the industry who have made and continue to make massive contributions to the industry but who refuse(d) to be recognized for their preference for obvious reasons. Some have even gotten married and had children in an effort to elude suspicion and rumors.
It is MOST unfortunate when a situation like Mr. Cee’s takes place especially in the hip hop community long viewed openly as the epitome of homophobia. Some notables such as Funkmaster Flex and even 50 Cent (who has been homophobic in the past but also admits his own mother was a bisexual/lesbian) came to Mr. Cee’s rescue but I digress… How is it that the black community can be so incredibly homophobic but all the rules change in the prison system? Do we want to have our cake and eat it too or are our opinions strictly based on environment instead of core beliefs (group think)?
One is left to wonder what will become of Mr. Cee after the smoke has cleared. Thus far, it is rumored his wife left the day after the arrest and he has since been M.I.A.
Brook Lynn, the self admitted “drag queen” who was caught in the car with Mr. Cee in NY states here that nothing took place. Obviously enjoying his/her 15 minutes of infamy, he/she comes back in another video later (not posted) to state sex DID take place and he/she was paid $200.00. This incident reminds me of Eddie Murphy, Tevin Campbell and Bishop Eddie Long all of whom suffered extensive disreputable damage, if nothing else, after the allegations. Both Murphy and Long were extremely homophobic before being exposed.
Mix Jocks and DJs are rarely verbal about anything as it is an industry based on showing one’s skill more than being spokespersons on various issues but if they are anything like the rest of the industry or the black community, this is not good news for Mr. Cee’s impressive and respected legacy, which should be able to withstand the scandal but time will tell. What’s even more interesting is that he gets credit for helping put Biggie on the map and at the same time the car incident took place, it was revealed on several blogs that BIG’s best friend was openly gay and BIG did not have a problem with it. Here’s the video
