CLEAR CHANNEL CHANGES?
Clear Channel changes are about to take place according to sources and some CC employees are feeling it, talking about it and waiting. The company is going to have to make some cutbacks and sources inform us that CC is very interested in having Regional PDs that manage multiple stations, for example, and that some of the smaller markets are allegedly being looked at to make those changes first. Changes in management will also take place in the coming months.
STEVE HARVEY and Urban Radio
As you know I have been predicting for at least two years that Steve Harvey will end up leaving urban radio and his goal is to mimic Tyler Perry’s massive success and to build his own entertainment empire. I must admit, I am quite impressed with what Steve has done thus far. I have a new respect for him and I fully understand how the biased Hollywood machine works. Black success is most powerful when WE bring an audience WITH us. If you are trying to CREATE an audience you are at Hollywood’s mercy and you have a LONG and VERY POLITICAL wait. Steve learned this and he changed the game to work to his advantage whereas his appeal, like Tyler, would be undeniable and it is. Within the next two years Harvey will be even BIGGER and he will get a huge movie deal after his movie Think Like a Man becomes a smash hit (and it will). So the question is not WILL Harvey leave urban radio, it’s WHEN is he going to leave and my prediction is within a year.
Speaking of bringing the audience with us, corporations play the same game. There is some incredible POTENTIAL talent in urban radio that does not have the chance to shine because the corporations will not let them promote themselves. This is most unfortunate because there will be no more Steve Harveys, Wendy Williams’ and Tom Joyners.
SPEAKING OF TOM JOYNER
I fully understand why Tom Joyner is trying to push President Obama’s win in 12. Tom is still pissed at Tavis Smiley and feels that he and Cornel have betrayed Obama in a way that he cannot make sense of. Joyner is old school as in Martin Luther King Jr, old school and the most important thing to Tom is that we actually have a black president. While ALL of us were shocked this actually happened… Tom is making a very big mistake by telling listeners to vote for Obama BECAUSE he is black. He added insult to injury by telling black listeners to ignore the issues? I don’t think Tom has heard the last of this and the story is growing. Tom is not playing the game right and with that kind of influence, there is no need to talk to listeners like you’re talking to one of your close friends. There could be a HUGE backlash if the wrong people come after the TJMS and accuse him of being racist so he better learn how to handle this situation more politically and take the emotion out of it.
