KEVSUM: Brand New Me… SEE/Changes at the Labels/Stock Market//Mo’Nique/Investing NOW/Fake FaceBook Preachers/PD Contest/Vegetarian

Greetings friends. This is the new me. I’ve lost a LOT of weight and I’ve been working out like a gym rat maniac. See the arms? I am not done yet but I will tell you being a vegetarian and truly committing to a work out plan is the best decision I have ever made. I feel great and I hated being a fat ass greasy, gassed up bull-whale-pig-mammoth. Eating that pure lard-laced POISON while living in Overatedlanta, GA (Atlanta).  It’s AMAZING how much better life is when you get in shape… AMAZING. You get everything GOOD… AMPED. I even have my first stalker. Isn’t that great? A white woman that lives in my building.  Thanks to Fred Williams for introducing me to FBMOF (Fit Black Men over 40) on FaceBook. The brothers on that site are so encouraging some in their 60s who are in better shape then MANY brothers in their 20s. If you want more info let me know..

Speaking of FaceBook… if you know that people hate you and you are a cantankerous, bitter, mean son of a bitch. Stop posting messages of love, acceptance and God on FaceBook. Nobody gives a damn about what you think (or THINK you think) and who wants words of wisdom from a damn fool? I sincerely hope people are not that desperate. Be your OWN God and stay out of other people’s way.

The major changes at the labels (Sony and Universal) are being announced this week and last. This means many more changes will occur over the next couple of weeks as the heads announce who they have appointed to work with them. I’m hearing it will all be out by the middle of Sept. So expect many announcements over the next couple of weeks.

During a conversation with Sam Sylk the other day I mentioned to him how admirable I thought it was for him to step out of the urban radio DJ realm and to take advantage of the talk radio opportunity that has been given to him in Chicago. In general, we (as black radio people) complain about the lack of opportunities before us in radio but we don’t often step outside the box either. Don’t wait for Cathy Hughes or Clear Channel to OFFER you something different, shit, GO AND GET IT!!! Good luck to Sam.

Seeing Al Sharpton on MSNBC the other day I have to admit took me a minute to get used to. Al is still relatively young (is he even 60 yet?) and he is extremely intelligent and savvy. I’ve had an incredible amount of respect for him ever since he read Tavis Smiley the riot act during one of Tavis’ I’m-so-jealous-of-Obama tirades. I used to work with Tavis and Al hit the nail on the head. It is amazing how Smiley has plunged over the last few years but it is not surprising. With Tom Joyner jumping on the F-Tavis bandwagon and Tavis’ BET history etc, Tavis is running out of bridges and the smoke is not clearing. Also keep in mind the business community has not forgotten Tavis’ vicious attack on the former CompUSA either. He is really good at his PBS show and that’s a good arena for him. I thought it was hilarious when Tom called Cornell West Tavis’ “side piece.” I guess Tom does have a sense of humor. Good luck to Sharpton on his new venture. I am 100% with Sharpton for NOT appearing at the NABJ after his journalistic credibility was questioned by two jealous “professionals.” In this age of reality TV people want what is REAL not what is FAKE. You may say but reality TV is fake… as if people reading scripts and acting is not? I am an actor and I don’t watch TV at all. (I”m a Netflix junkie and I love morbid shows like The First 48. Don’t hate me cause I’m different)

I have to admit I am one of those people that just could not watch Mo’Nique. I think the idea to give black stars that platform as guests was phenomenal but I’m not sure she was the right host and the show was just over the top at times. After watching the legendary Pam Grier on the show with Foxy Brown, I tuned out for good after that. That had to be one of the worst shows I have EVER seen.  I’m thinking they are going to bring that show back with a new host. Rumor is Mo’Nique’s husband Sidney Hicks is allegedly out of control and that he thinks he is ‘Jesus: Lord of Show Business’ and difficult to work with. This is ALWAYS the case when women bring their husbands into the show biz fold and they have no experience. Mo is a GREAT actress and perhaps it time to focus more on that?

In the early 2000s during Sept 11 when the stock market crashed I took my money out. I had mostly invested in media companies like Clear Channel and Radio One which I will not do again. I am making a hard core prediction here folks. Within the next three years, an internet company will come along and knock the living shit out of commercial radio. I don’t know if commercial radio will be able to recover but I’m putting my money into technology this time… and THIS is the time to invest folks NOW.. while the market is taking a dive… NOW!

Let a brother go and work out. We can talk later.

Love always

Kev
