Interep (IREP.PK) announced today that it has retained Venn Strategies, LLC of Washington, DC to collaborate on a strategic initiative to increase radio’s share of political advertising expenditures during this year’s presidential election.

The effort will target the campaigns of the presidential contenders, as well as issue spending, advocacy groups and other political entities with significant advertising budgets. The goal will be to increase political spending on radio by delivering turnkey, integrated solutions that combine radio with a variety of additional touch points, including digital marketing platforms, local events and mobile campaign extensions.

“The 2004 presidential elections and 2006 gubernatorial, Senate, and House races brought unprecedented dollars into media,” noted Mike Walsh, President/COO of Interep. “This year, we are poised to smash all records. The two major parties have raised record amounts of money for the Presidential race, and there are House, Senate and gubernatorial battles as well. Radio offers unique, powerful opportunities for cand idates to convey their messages, and our collaboration with Venn Strategies will ensure that the campaigns are fully aware of what radio can do for them. We expect this initiative to have a significant impact on political spending on radio.”

Stephanie Silverman, Principal, Venn Strategies, said, “We believe strongly that the political spending market is a dynamic one that will continue to grow. By bringing more information about the value proposition of radio to key political influentials, we will help radio tap more forcefully into this key segment opportunity. We look forward to our partnership with Interep in this regard.”
