Amidst the monumental celebration of Barack Obama being the first elected Black president, the music industry suffered several great tragedies over the last couple of weeks from Jennifer Hudson’s family tragedy to the industry losing two greats: Shakir Stewart and industry icon Jheryl Busby.
RF has learned that a private funeral is being arranged for Shakir Stewart, Def Jam Record’s Executive Vice-President of A&R, who committed suicide this past weekend. As stated earlier, Officer Reese, at the Cobb County police dept. refused to disclose full details of the crime scene but confirmed it was a suicide. Arrangements are being made at Murray Bros. Cascade Chapel in Atlanta. The medical examiners office is currently doing an autopsy and said the results may not be released for another couple of months. Stewart’s finance Michelle Rivers said that Stewart was in “deep pain and largely suffering in silence.” Many have also speculated that Stewart would not have left his child (children) without insurance. However, most insurance companies omit coverage for suicide cases.
