DOCUMENTARY CHANNEL HONORS BLACK HISTORY MONTH WITH “INFILTRATING HOLLYWOOD: THE RISE AND FALL OF THE SPOOK WHO SAT BY THE DOOR” THIS FEBRUARY

Directors Christine Acham & Clifford Wards’ gripping documentary follows a grassroots movement based in the African American community to make a movie based on author Sam Greenlee’s controversial book, Infiltrating Hollywood: The Rise and Fall of the Spook Who Sat by the Door, leaves the audience rooting for the author, director, and actors who are fighting to take their places in Hollywood.
Greenlee’s novel, The Spook Who Sat by the Door, upon which the film is based, tells the fictional story of the first black CIA agent, Dan Freeman, who returns to Chicago after five years of discriminatory treatment at the CIA. Enraged by the behavior of his superiors, Dan Freeman vows to get even. His day job is social service worker; his night job is trainer to a street gang. Freeman is determined to pass on his secret weapons to help the young men fight the war on race… weapons he got from the CIA.
Even when the film is eventually released to rave response, the war is not over. Like a shot to the heart, audiences will be left stunned as the film is left gasping for air under the stifling hand of the F.B.I.
With endearing and heart-breaking interviews, Infiltrating Hollywood: The Rise and Fall of the Spook Who Sat by the Door, shows the courage, determination, and frustration of a group who would not be spooked. The documentary premieres on the Documentary Channel on Feb. 28 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
Documentary Channel is primarily available through satellite television services DISH Network (Channel 197) and DIRECTV (Channel 267).
