CBS RADIO today announced a number of key management positions for CBS Sports Radio, utilizing its most experienced executives to develop, innovate and guide what will be the largest major market radio network.
Longtime Sports Radio 66 WFAN employee Eric Spitz will take on the role of Director of Programming with responsibility for talent development, scheduling, on-air presentation and production. He will report to Chris Oliviero, Senior Vice President of Programming, CBS RADIO who will also oversee the day-to-day operations of the network. Spitz has served as the Program Director for WFAN, the most listened to sports radio station in the country, since 2005.

Mark has been one of the principals helping to lay the foundation for CBS Sports Radio and his continued guidance will be a huge advantage as we craft programming we are confident will be of great interest to our affiliates around the country.”
Spitz is a WFAN original, hired as a desk assistant when the station signed on the air on July 1, 1987. He moved up the producer ranks before being named as the station’s assistant program director in the early 90’s. In 2002, Spitz was named Vice President, Operations and Programming for Westwood One’s Shadow/Metro Traffic. He held that position for three years before returning to WFAN as the station’s program director.
Additionally, Spitz has produced Olympic coverage for Westwood One – Seoul (1988), Barcelona (1992), Atlanta (1996), Sydney (2000) and Salt Lake City (2002).
Oliviero was named Senior Vice President of Programming for CBS RADIO in 2009. In this position, he is part of the corporate team overseeing all programming initiatives on-air and online for the company’s 127 radio stations. He also plays a key role in the company’s search for both established and up and coming talent.
He began his career with CBS RADIO in 1996 as an intern for the Howard Stern Show. Upon his graduation from New York University in 1998, Oliviero joined WFAN as producer and two years later was named executive producer for WNEW 102.7FM. He joined CBS RADIO’s corporate staff as program coordinator in January 2004, and has also served as Director, Original Programming and Vice President of Programming.
Oliviero has played a pivotal role in CBS RADIO’s FM sports expansion into such major markets as Dallas, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Atlanta, Boston, Detroit, and Pittsburgh. In 2007, along with Chernoff, he was instrumental in bringing the highly-rated Boomer and Carton program to morning drive on WFAN.
Since 2005, Chernoff has been operations director of WFAN. He previously was program director since 1993. He is integral in formulating and executing strategies that grow the WFAN brand, and also manages the station’s relationships with the various local professional sports franchises. During his tenure, WFAN has been honored with a number of NAB Marconi Radio Awards for Station of the Year as well as Major Market Personality of the Year. The station has also raised more than $30 million for local charities via its annual radiothon.
Chernoff also is Vice President, Sports Programming, CBS RADIO. In this role, he guides the company’s sports radio strategy and presides over the format currently broadcast on 18 stations nationwide.
