WDAS 105.3 FM’s “Steve Harvey Morning Show” Broadcasts Live to Promote 2010 Census

Event Features Performance by Ruben Studdard

105.3 WDAS 105.3 FM’s “Steve Harvey Morning Show” will broadcast live at the Kimmel Center (300 South Broad Street – Philadelphia, PA 19102) from 6:00-10:00 AM on Tuesday March 16th to promote the 2010 Census as part of a massive civic outreach and awareness campaign.  The broadcast, sponsored by the US Census Bureau,  will  encourage listeners to look out for the 2010 Census questionnaires in March and be counted and feature a live performance by Ruben Studdard.  Representatives from the U.S Census will be on site to answer questions.  Seating is open to the general public on a first come first served basis.

Civil rights leaders have contended that the 2000 Census undercounted an estimated one million African Americans and Hispanics while double counting some two million Whites.  An accurate count is critical  because the 2010 Census will determine how much of the $400 billion in federal funds is allocated to communities for services like foster care, Medicare, school funding and will help determine congressional representation.
