myspace1I’m interested in knowing what you think of the following. You can comment (below the post) and you can do so anonymously. We prefer industry people answer the questions, thanks.

1. We have seen many industry deaths this year and there are a LOT of former industry people in dire straits. How well are you prepared for the worst and do you have any plans for retirement?

2. What happened to MySpace. Just a year and a half ago, it was all you heard about, then came FaceBook and MySpace literally was a dead issue. Your thoughts?

3. One of the BIGGEST problems with radio is there are few innovative and forward thinkers heading the corporations. The same applies to the newspaper and magazine industries and you see what’s happening to them. They will literally be obsolete in the next 2 years unless they make some MAJOR changes. Could you actually see the complete demise of the radio industry? What do you think will save it?

4. The record labels have streamlined their operations to the point that artists have to come to the table with smash hits and artists development is no longer a priority. What do you think the future of the record labels is?

5. If Steve Harvey got a huge production deal from Paramount Pictures, do you think he would leave urban radio hanging? What are your TRUE thoughts about syndication?

  1. Jerry Andrews says:

    1. What age bracket are you refering. The Baby Boomers or the generation that followed?

    2. Myspace was new, and the about the only game in town.
Now it is for the kids, or those that want to get laid but don’t know how to ask. Then there are the people from Ghana who claims (for some reason) that they are in love with you. You Americans are so dumb they will believe anything. LOL Face Book seems to me for the more mature.

    3. Back in 1988, I spoke at a conference and told the industry that Europeans where going to take over black radio. No one believed it could be done at that time. So they took our music, and has made it their music. All the major labels where owned by Foreign companies, why not radio. But they can not understand why it doesn’t work for them, and still can’t. They never will. You will have to be born into the race, to get that gene that produces all the super stars that we have. It can’t be copied. Its a natural God given gift, just like sports. Also we do not have any organization in power that will support a local programmer and back him if he/she speaks up. Like Jack Gibson, or the YBPC.

    4. Once I figure out an alternative hype campaign, no one will need the majors. They only provide the hype. Yes this was stated in 1988 also. They were to heavy at the top. They also, almost killed indie promoters, which where the small cog in the clock that kept it ticking. New talent was either brought to the labels, or were developed to stand alone. They kept the variety alive, the excitement always present. Now we have about 15 artist on the black side of the industry. They don’t come to local towns. Most are major label hype artist.

    5. Steve will become the Male Oprah. He is getting his feet wet in another area of the industry. Can’t blame him for moving on to bigger and better. We all see radio dying. Can’t keep making horse whips if they are no longer needed.
    Peace
