Groove Radio in Atlanta Getting Rave Reviews, Will it Last?

p2I spent the better part of my morning listening to Groove 105.7 in Atlanta online. I can’t believe that the 90s fall into the oldies categories now. The music does sound good and one has to wonder if adding a programmer (or the WRONG programmer) and a staff really are the elements to spoil the party. It seems to always start off the same way with new stations, constant music, few, if any, commercials and exciting production to compliment the music THEN the staff is brought in. My prediction is the station is going to bring in a programmer who is either too young or not that familiar with the music, he or she in turn will hire more 20 something jocks with no culture and the honeymoon will be over very quickly. I HOPE I’m wrong on this one. Then there are those times when a station can go too far. When I was at KACE in LA we used to have to go through the R&B history books and give information on the oldies records and artists that we played (laugh) needless to say the station failed. I don’t think listeners need to know that much but they do want to be entertained. I have to admit, Groove 105.7 is an interesting format and all the music is not “groove” music but it takes you away from the myriad of endless banter and predictable radio in Atlanta and the rest of the country. The question remains, however, how do you staff up a station like this. Here’s the link
