
Philadelphia, PA, October 9, 2008 - Clear Channel Radio Philadelphia President Manuel V. Rodriguez announced today the promotion of Brian Check to Operations Manager for Clear Channel
Radio Philadelphia, Kashon Powell to Program Director for Power 99FM, WUSL and the hiring of Tracy Austin as Program Director for Q102 FM, WIOQ. Rodriguez says, “Brian Check and Kashon Powell have demonstrated leadership and commitment to our media company and their promotions are well deserved. Additionally, we’re ecstatic to have Tracy Austin join the Philadelphia team. Tracy brings years of experience, talent and excellence to our management lineup.” Rodriguez went on to say, “Brian, Kashon and Tracy
are the ideal leaders to take us into the future of this dynamic and evolving media business.”
Clear Channel Philadelphia Operations Director Brian Check will oversee operations for the media cluster which includes WISX FM (My 106.1 FM) WIOQ FM (Q102 FM) , WUSL FM (Power 99FM), WDAS FM, WRFF FM (Radio 104.5 FM) and WUBA AM (Rumba 1480 AM). Check will also continue as Program Director for WISX FM. Check says, “We have very strong station brands in Philly, and a tremendous team behind them! I’m thrilled to have this opportunity, as we move forward with new technology and new challenges.” Check has worked for 10 years in Philadelphia. He is responsible for the design and implementation of Philadelphia’s successful My106.1. Check’s career has included regional programming oversight and sales management for Clear Channel Radio and as an on-air talent and Account Executive for CBS Radio.
Power 99 FM Program Director Kashon Powell previously served as Music Director and Assistant PD for the station. Prior to coming to Power 99FM, Powell was R&B Editor for Radio & Records Magazine and spent over ten years at KBXX in Houston, TX starting out as a researcher and rising through the ranks to become Program Director. Powell says, “It is a privilege to have this opportunity to program one of the nation’s strongest urban brands. Power 99 FM is groundbreaker and a ratings and community leader. I look forward to taking the station to even greater heights.” Among her accolades - Powell received Radio and Record’s award for Music Director of the Year for 2007 and 2008.
WIOQ Program Director Tracy Austin comes to the station after a two year stint as Program Director for Nova 106.9, Brisbane, Australia. Austin says, “All the way from Australia to the birthplace of America! I am so excited to be back in the Clear Channel family, and honored to have a chance to program the celebrated Q102. With Elvis, Diego and the pro team at Q there's nothing we can't do!” Austin’s credentials include Assistant Program Director/Music Director for KIIS/102.7 KISS FM Los Angeles, CA, and award winning Program Director for 104 KRBE, Houston and KISS 95.7 Harford, CT. Among her other career accomplishments Austin has served as a Brand Manager for Clear Channel and has received numerous awards including Radio and Records Program Director of the Year in 2005 and 2006, 1998 Music Director of the Year and 1994 Billboard Music Director of the Year.
Brian Check and Kashon Powell promotions are effective immediately. Tracy Austin’s appointment begins October 16, 2008.
